An amazing project has started in China.
Under this project, Chinese scientists will drill a hole in the Earth’s crust to a depth of 32,808 feet.
Work to drill China’s deepest borehole in China’s Xinjiang region began on May 30.
More than 10 continental layers will be encountered while digging this hole in the ground.
This hole will provide access to the part of the Earth’s crust where there are more than 145 million years old rocks.
Sun Jinsheng, a scientist at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said that this project is very difficult, it is like we are driving a big truck on 2 thin steel wires.
The project will help China identify underground minerals and energy sources while also analyzing the risks of environmental disasters such as earthquakes and volcanic activity.
It should be noted that the record of the world’s deepest hole is held by Russia, where a hole reached a depth of 40,230 feet in 1989 after 20 years of drilling.
